Creating new Categories,..
Hi all,

In order for you to be able to create new categories you need to have administrative rights, your normal user profiles have now been changed to admin accounts giving you all a lil extra power & allowing you to create new categories

Categories
Hi all,

I'm having difficulty creating new categories on the blog. It seems like it would be a good plan to structure it along our research interests or the themes and sites that we outlined in today's meeting for the website structure. E.g. tourism, settlement, migration, etc etc. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I tried to follow the instructions in the support document but couldn't get it to work.

Technical Diagnostic on Image upload
Hi
out technical guy has been trouble shooting the image uploading problem, please see below for solution
From now on we recommend you change all images to GIFF format before uploading also see below.

As for AV files we have discussed this with Sean and he is aware, there was no official decision made on this format but in terms of the website this will be possible.

http://mywebland.com/forums/showtopic.php?t=724
This link above records the problems that the client NSNF has been having.

This problem occurs as there are discrepancies in the JPEG file format.

These problems are well documented in forums and technical websites such as Microsoft
http://www.microsoft.com/protect/computer/updates/bulletins/200409_jpeg_tool.mspx

JPEG files are subject to VIRUS infection!!!!!!!!!

http://www.sophos.com/pressoffice/news/articles/2002/06/va_perrun.html

In summary there are multiple JPEG formats. But all appear in windows XP/2000 as .jpg

* .jpg
* .jpeg
* .pjpeg
* .pjpg

Within these formats there are three render modes:
1. Progressive
2. Baseline standard
3. Baseline "Optimized"

So in short unless the person uploading the image is familiar with JPEG file formats and render modes this form of image upload is unreliable on any web platform.

The UNIVERSAL file format for the web is .GIF, gif is a standard developed for interchange within web platforms, this format was developed to make web graphics load quicker and be stable on any server type.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Stop uploading unreliable JPEG files and start uploading .GIF files. You will not have any more problems.

How to change a file from JPEG to GIF?
This free image tool kit from infranview

http://www.irfanview.com/
Allows you to change images from JPEG or any format to GIF.

Image Uploading

Hi All !

Eoin has devoped a script which allows for the uploading of images to the Blog homepage ..

Just follow these steps,

1. From the home page, click on ADMIN, then click on the TOOLS tab.
2. Here you click BROWSE to locate your image and once located, click UPLOAD
3. Now your file will be featured on the file name list
4. Click on the file
5. Now Highlight the URL address bar @ the top of the web page and copy it (CTRL + ALT +C)
6.Like normal go to NEW POST where you would normally upload text.
7. Under BBcode you will see a series of tabs eg( Quote, Code, ol=a, li..) etc
8. Click the IMG tab once and in the message area you should see [img]
9. Now after [img] right click and paste the address you copied in step 5.
The message should for example read something like this:

[img]http://newsitesnewfields.com/blogs/blog/files/fulllogo.gif

10. now finally you must close this by clicking Img* a second time and your link should read similar to below:

[img]http://newsitesnewfields.com/blogs/blog/files/fulllogo.gif [/img]

11. now this enables you to upload text and images in the same post!

GOOD LUCK!
if any one has any questions or wants to arrange a meeting to do a demo of this in person feel free to call the office @ 071 98 55750
